SFCA INTRODUCES NEW HEADMASTER
Southwest Florida Christian Academy’s new headmaster Eric Munn comes with 26 years of educational experience. He has been a teacher, coach, principal, and headmaster. Mr. Munn comes to SFCA from Fellowship Christian School in Roswell, GA, where he served as headmaster for seven years. During his tenure, FCS experienced a 40 % increase in enrollment, built all new athletic fields, and is considered one of the top academic performing schools in the Atlanta metroplex. Mr. Munn is a trained accreditation chairman and member of the Paul Young Headmaster’s Roundtable. He has a B.S. in Elementary Education from Gwynedd-Mercy College and a M.Ed in Educational Leadership from Stephen F. Austin State University. He is a former teacher of the year nominee and holds a lifetime All-levels Administrators certificate from the state of Texas. He has a passion for academic excellence and is excited about the future for SFCA. Mr. Munn has been married to his wife Kathy for 33 years. They have four children and three grandchildren.

SFCA STUDENTS RECEIVE STATE RECOGNITION
Emily Higginbotham and Thomas Arcentales, seventh grade students at Southwest Florida Christian Academy, participated in the Duke University's Talent Identification Program (TIP). They were awarded state recognition for their participation in the talent search based on their performance on the ACT.
Duke TIP is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving academically gifted and talented students. Duke TIP works with students, their families, and educators to identify, recognize, challenge, engage, and help students reach their highest potential. Now in its 32nd year, the 7th Grade Talent Search identifies bright seventh graders based on standardized test scores achieved while attending elementary or middle school.
Candidates are invited to take the ACT or the SAT college entrance exams as
seventh graders, which allows them greater insight into their academic abilities.
In addition, they gain valuable benefits and have access to unique resources for
gifted students. These students have earned an award by scoring at or above the
national average of recent high school graduates on at least one part of the ACT
or the SAT. These students are invited to a special recognition ceremony held at a
university in our state.

SFCA SOFTBALL TEAM HELPS OTHERS
Southwest Florida Christian Academy's (SFCA) varsity softbal1 team assisted with the Fort Myers American Challenger League players on March 24. The Challenger League boys and girls have special needs and wish to learn how to play little league. SFCA Senior Sam Hillman said, "This is the most enjoyable and rewarding service project I've ever done!"

SFCA TENNIS TEAM GOES UNDEFEATED
Southwest Florida Christian Academy's middle school tennis teams achieved outstanding victories in its first year of existence. The boys' team finished the season undefeated (with a 6-0 record) while the girls' team ended the season with a 5-1 record. The team coaches are Doug Cohen (head coach), Robert Iwaniec, and Michael Arcentales.

SFCA SENIOR EXCELS AT STATE!
Thomas Sievert, a senior at Southwest Florida Christian Academy, recently received an Excellent rating on a grade 7 piano solo at the Florida Bandmasters Association State Music Performance Assessment. A grade 7 is the most difficult level to perform at the high school level. The event was held on Friday and Saturday, March 30-31, at Broward College Central Campus in Davie, Florida.

SFCA'S AUCTION IS A HUGE SUCCESS
On March 24, Southwest Florida Christian Academy held its annual auction to raise
money for its athletic, fine arts and scholarship programs. After enjoying a delicious dinner provided by Carrabbas, the bidding began. As always, Jay Sievert was an entertaining auctioneer who helped in raising over $65,000.

SFCA TEACHER NOMINATED FOR GOLDEN HALO
Susie Kackley, a second grade teacher at Southwest Florida Christian Academy, was nominated to receive the Golden Halo for the 2011-2012 school year. Ms. Kackley was nominated by Madison and Mackenzie Thomas, twins who are students in her class. Ten teachers will be honored on April 21, at the annual dinner that will be held at Spanish Wells in Bonita Springs. The Christian Chamber of Southwest Florida recognizes outstanding teachers in Lee, Collier, Charlotte, and Hendry counties. Golden Halo is the Christian school equivalent to Golden Apple.

SFCA SCORES IN MUSIC!
Students from Southwest Florida Christian Academy participated in the Florida Bandmaster’s
District Music Performance Assessment on Saturday, February 4, 2012, held at
Lehigh High School.

SFCA WINS GULF COAST ATHLETIC CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIPS
Southwest Florida Christian Academy (SFCA) middle school boys and girls basketball teams won the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Championships. The SFCA ladies took this title home by beating Oasis Charter School with a final score of 25-22. The SFCA boys won over the Community School in an overtime thriller with a final score of 41-36.

SFCA SCORES FOR BREAST CANCER AWARENESS
Southwest Florida Christian Academy's (SFCA) girls varsity basketball team honored those fighting breast cancer by hosting a "Think Pink" game against Evangelical Christian School (ECS). Susan G. Komen representatives gave out vital information on fighting this disease, while the money from the gate and concessions went to the Foundation to help find a cure. All families who have been touched by breast cancer were honored and prayed for that evening. Shelly Baker, a SFCA parent and breast cancer survivor, said, "It’s nice to be able to give back to an organization that has done so much for breast cancer awareness. What I went through wasn’t in vain. It has given me the opportunity to educate others on this subject."
A large audience showed up to support this noble cause and to watch a close game as
the SFCA ladies pulled off a win over ECS by two points!

SFCA TAKES THE GOLD
The Southwest Florida Christian Academy (SFCA) King’s Wrestling Team has won its first gold medal. Sophomore Noah Huxley (pictured) won the gold in the 220 lb. division competing at the Don Sanford Jr Invitational Tournament in Port Charlotte this past Saturday. He beat all three opponents by pins in the first minute of each match.
Eighth grader Jon Angoluan earned 4th place competing in the 120 lb. division, while Sophomore Andrew Kreps qualified for the 145 lb. medal rounds.
Coach Jim Martin, who won the gold in the 1983 Pan Am games, has led the King’s to victory in the three short years since its origination.

SFCA TEACHER RECEIVES $10,000 SCHOLARSHIP
Dr. Douglas J. Roth from Southeastern University visited the Southwest Florida Christian Academy (SFCA) campus to award Stephanie Laymon, sixth grade teacher, a $10,000 scholarship toward a master’s degree program. The scholarship was presented by Dr. Roth personally at SFCA chapel last week. From hundreds of applicants, Stephanie Laymon was one of three recipients for a scholarship in this amount.

SFCA HELPS NEEDY IN THIRD WORLD COUNTRIES
One of Southwest Florida Christian Academy's second grade classes found a special way to show God's love this Christmas. Having the desire to bless as many children as they could, the students in Mrs. Fulwider’s class started a Christmas Jar in October.
This one small class collected $400.98! Working with World Vision, the students chose to purchase the following items for needy children: Bibles, food, chickens, a goat, fruit trees, care for three orphans, medicine, and education for one child.
On Christmas Day, as our students open their own Christmas presents, they will smile
knowing that they have shared God’s love in a special way.

 SFCA CHEERLEADERS CAPTURE ANOTHER FIRST
The Southwest Florida Christian Academy (SFCA) cheer teams traveled to Kissimmee to perform at the Silver Spurs Arena in the FCC Florida State Championships on Dec. 3. The Junior High team placed first in their division, as they performed an incredible routine. The Varsity Co-ed team, who holds the title of first in the Nation, also took first place. Both teams will go on to compete at Nationals this year.

SFCA PARTICIPATES IN NEW GUINNESS RECORD
Southwest Florida Christian Academy's (SFCA) grades K - 5 and one 6th grade P.E. class added 234 stackers to a world-wide effort to set a new Guinness World record for stacking. There were 26 countries, including all 50 states in the USA, who worked to surpass the previous record of 316,736. The new Guinness world record is 409,600!.
The number to beat was 316,736, and we sailed right past that on Friday afternoon, November 18th. Thanks to the 250 stackers at West Dodge Station Elementary in Elkhorn, Nebraska for putting us over at exactly 4:19 pm (MST). The WSSA initially hoped to surpass the goal of 350,000 stackers. Thanks to everyone in 28 countries (including all 50 states in the USA) for taking part in this banner stack up event on Guinness World Records Day!

SFCA PARTICIPATES IN OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD
Since 1993, Operation Christmas Child has collected 86 million shoe box gifts and hand-delivered them to impoverished children in more than 130 countries. This year, Operation Christmas Child hopes to collect another 8.5 million gift-filled shoe boxes. Southwest Florida Christian Academy (SFCA) students collected 581 boxes to help meet that need. McGregor Baptist Church joined the students' efforts this year and added another 661 to that number for a final count of 1,242 shoeboxes filled with hygienic items, toys, and other treats. The boxes collected in Florida will go to Panama, Ukraine, Macedonia, Bahamas, Uganda, Lebanon, Kenya, Tanzania, Namibia, Seychelles, Togo, Benin, Belize, Ecuador, Madagascar, and one undisclosed country!
What joy it was for SFCA students
to participate in this effort. This is not the first time the students
have participated in this endeavor. SFCA has been an active member
of this ministry since 1997.
Operation Christmas Child is a project of international Christian relief
and evangelism organization Samaritan Purse, headed by Franklin
Graham. While Samaritan Purse works to meet critical physical
needs, such as clean water, health care and food.
Operation Christmas Child addresses a need for which children are
just as desperate the need to have hope and feel loved.

SFCA CELEBRATES HOMECOMING
Southwest Florida Christian Academy (SFCA) celebrated its first homecoming on the football field! This year's king and queen are SAS Stouder and Meridith Doerstling, prince and princess from the 11th grade are Kenny Hawley and Mikayla Hetherington, prince and princess from the 10th grade are David Faux and JoJo Scoggins, and prince and princess from the 9th grade are Jack Seravello and Nicole Nicely. The King’s scored a victory of 38 – 0 that night when facing Boca Christian. The following night a dinner and dance was held at the Renaissance Country Club to end the Homecoming celebration!

ANOTHER SFCA STUDENT TO SING AT CARNEGIE HALL
Grace Postorino, a senior at Southwest Florida Christian Academy, has been invited to sing at Carnegie Hall in 2012. Grace has been a member of the SFCA choir since she was in fifth grade and has been an active participant of the school's praise team and advanced ensemble and an All State participant three years running. Grace is the second student asked to perform at Carnegie this year; Larry Collins performed there in January 2011. SFCA is pleased that Carnegie Hall has acknowledged Grace's talent, and the school is proud of her efforts. Congratulations, Grace!

 SFCA CAPTURES CONFERENCE TITLE!
Southwest Florida Christian Academy's (SFCA) middle school volleyball team has claimed the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference championship title! After a fierce battle this season, the team finished with a 21-1 record. They ended the season on Saturday, October 22, with a 2-0 victory over Community School of Naples in the conference finals. Congratulations to the following King's ladies: Macy Hoesley, Olivia Jensen, Megan Thomas, Ally Frith, Lily Tessier, Meghan Todd, Kerry Linehan, Kristen Jacobs, Faith Harden, Lindsey Cox, Mikaela Toth, Abby Ferrell, Megan Derums, Krista Sciulla, Sarah Kate Sheffield, Lexi Shirey, and Tiffany Morina.

SFCA HOSTS SUCCESSFUL FISHING TOURNAMENT
The Southwest Florida Christian Academy's first annual fishing
tournament resulted in a large turnout, 32 boats with 32 teams,
lots of fun, and $15,800 added to the treasury of the Athletic
Boosters' Club. Cash prizes were awarded to the winners of the Student Division: Heaviest Redfish, Student Division Heaviest Trout,
Calcutta Heaviest Redfish, Calcutta Most Spots Redfish. The largest
fish caught was 14.2 pounds by Team Raymond who also caught the
largest redfish. Team Irresistible came in second, and Team Smokin'
Pit placed third.
Landon Luettich (pictured at right), a fifth-grader at SFCA, caught the
largest redfish in the Student Division. A first-grade student, Paulo
Bailey, caught the redfish with the most spots.

 SFCA STUDENTS SET TO SING AT DISNEY
A 14-member ensemble at Southwest Florida Christian Academy (SFCA)
has been requested to appear in the Candlelight performance at Walt
Disney World on December 7 . The ensemble is made up of 7 freshmen
and 7 upper-class students. The students will be singing in a mass choir accompanied by a live orchestra A narration of Luke 2 is being read by Isabella Rossellini, an actress, model, film maker, and daughter of Ingrid Bergman. Mrs. Jennifer Rouskey is the music director at SFCA

SFCA VARSITY EXCELS AT QUALITY LIFE CENTER
Friday, September 9, 2011, Southwest Florida Christian Academy (SFCA) varsity football team visited Quality Life Center of SW Florida, a nonprofit organization established to provide mentoring and tutoring services to families. James Long, Director of Marketing and Fundraising for Quality Life Center of SW Florida, stated “The kids were very excited to see the team working so hard to keep their place clean and in tip top shape.
Also, the boys went on their FaceBook page and made the Quality Life Center a friend. This helped with getting the word out for the Slap Me
Five campaign that is going on right now to raise needed money.”
Community service plays a huge role at SFCA, and the students have
had some wonderful experiences as a result of it.

SFCA ALUMNUS RECEIVES SCRIPPS RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP
Carissa Iverson, graduate of Southwest Florida Christian Academy, recently completed the Scripps Research Institute Research Fellows program. As one
of 12 recipients in the United States, she was selected to spend 10 weeks in a genetics laboratory studying genetics involved in protecting the ends of chromosomes. Presently a student at Palm Beach Atlantic University, Ms. Iverson hopes to concentrate on the field of genetics during her graduate work. She stated she became interested in science after taking a course in human anatomy and physiology as a high school student at SFCA.

SFCA CHOIR STUDENTS COMPETE FOR STATE HONORS
Kerry Linehan, Noah Bosman, Michael Rouskey, Tiffany Morina, Larry Collins, Grace Postorino, and Christina Kull from Southwest Florida Christian Academy's choir will advance to the final round of All State testing. The All State choir will then perform at the Florida Music Educator’s Conference held in Tampa, Fl., in January of 2012.
Congratulations to these students as they have been diligently working for this goal.

SFCA EXCELS IN MUSIC
Larry Collins, a junior at Southwest Florida Christian Academy (SFCA), is the only student in Lee County and 1 of 3 students selected from the Southwest Florida district that wasaccepted into the Reading Chorus for All State, which is being held in Tampa, Florida, inJanuary 2012. Only 100 students in the entire state are chosen for this honor. He will besinging bass with 99 other chorus members at the Florida Music Educator’s Conference.

 SFCA VISITS HARRY CHAPIN FOOD BANK
On Saturday, September 14, 11 Southwest Florida Christian Academy
cross-country team members along with Coach Tom Swiersz and some
parents went to the Harry Chapin Food Bank to assist in the distribution of
food products for the needy. The students made boxes, sorted and packed food items from 9 a.m. to noon. Everyone worked extremely hard and had a positive attitude. Afterward, the students decided it was a lot of fun and a good team
building day.
