Q:"How
do I apply for enrollment at SFCA?"
A: The process
begins with completing and returning all items in the application
package accompanied by the required application and enrollment fees.
The application process continues with admission testing and a family
interview. Kindergarten students must be five years old by September
1 to acquire a seat.
Q:"What
is your admission testing like?"
A: Admission
testing normally begins around the time of spring break. Students
applying for kindergarten will be tested individually using a standardized
developmental readiness scale. This test takes about 30-45 minutes
to complete. Students applying for grades 1-12 will either be tested
individually or in small groups, and will take the reading and math
portions of the Stanford Achievement Test. The test will take about
1.5 - 2.5 hours, depending on the grade level of the student. Parents
may drop their student off and pick them up when the testing is
completed. If the school your student is presently attending will
be administering the Stanford or other similar achievement test
in the spring, we will accept those test scores when they become
available and can avoid giving the student the same test two times.
You would be responsible for providing SFCA with a copy of the results
as soon as you get them from the current school.
Q: "Do
you have book fees?"
A: The cost
of book rental or purchase is included in the tuition schedule.
There are no additional book fees. Every student is expected to
purchase supplies for their grade level.
Q:"Are
you accredited?"
A: SFCA is dually
accredited through the Association of Christian Schools International
(ASCI) and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).
Q: "What
kind of qualifications do your teachers have?"
A: Our teachers
must meet the standards for certification through the Association
of Christian Schools International, which requires a four-year degree
in education, as well as additional credits in the Philosophy of
Christian Education and Bible. In addition, many of our teachers
hold state teaching certification. Our teachers are born-again believers
who feel called by God to teach in a Christian school.
Q: "What
curriculum do you use?"
A: After careful
evaluation, we have chosen the curriculum from a variety of publishers.
We select the ones which we feel best cover the subject areas from
a Christian perspective. See the Textbook List under the Academic tab on this web site for more detail on publishers.
Q: "What
are your school hours?"
A: Elementary
school hours are from 8:15 to 3:00. Students in 6th through 12th
grades are in school from 8:15 to 3:15.
Q: "What
kind of technology do you offer?"
A: Each elementary
classroom is equipped with five computers with Internet access.
An elementary computer lab is also used for technology classes. The middle and high school students have a fully-equipped computer
lab which offers classes ranging from Keyboarding to basic computer concepts, Office 2007, to photography and media design.
Q: "What
is the student/teacher ratio?"
A: There is
a maximum of 20 students in kindergarten and first grade, with a
full-time aide in kindergarten. In grades 2-5 there is a maximum
of 22 students in the classroom, and in grades 6-12 the maximum
is 25.
Q: "Do
you wear uniforms?"
A: Students
are required to wear uniforms purchased at the Sunshine School Uniform
Store located in Fort Myers. On Wednesdays, students are allowed
to wear an SFCA school T-shirt or a witness T-shirt and blue jeans.
The student must pay fifty cents for the privilege of wearing jeans,
and the proceeds go towards the athletic department.
Q: "Do
you have a hot lunch program?"
A: Click here for more information.
Q: "How can
I make tuition payments?"
A: Tuition payments
can be made in several ways. Annual and biannual payments must be
made by check to SFCA. Monthly payments are handled by a tuition
management company through Electronic Funds Transfers (EFT) from
checking, savings, or Visa/Mastercard account.
Q: "Do
you provide before and after school care?"
A: Our campus
opens at 7:00 a.m. and closes at 6:00 p.m. The Lighthouse Club offers
extended care for children in grades K-5. After school students
have snack time, complete their homework with supervision, and then
have play time. We also offer King's Crew for students in 6th through
12th grades, during which time they have access to the computer
lab. There is an additional charge for these programs.
