Elementary Technology

Kindergarten students use iPad apps and the website Starfall in their classroom to practice sight words, math activities and phonics.

Grades 1-4 students receive a weekly visit from the mobile iPad lab. During this time, they work on the iPads to advance their technological knowledge, learn how to navigate the web, learn digital citizenship, and use online tools. One of the greatest skills that is instilled in this age group is Digital Citizenship – how to communicate and act online, as well as how to protect themselves in virtual settings.

Some of the digital tools that we use are –

  • Kahoot – game-based learning platform used for assessment
  • Plickers – enables teachers to collect real-time formative assessment data without the need for student devices
  • GoAnimate –animated video creation
  • VideoScribe – whiteboard-style animation creation
  • Padlet – virtual bulletin board for collaboration and communication
  • WordCloud – creation of pictures using words
  • Coding – computer science application skills
  • Gamification – utilizing games to learn
  • Game Creation – using basic drag and drop coding to create video games

By fourth grade, students will be proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Publisher).

In addition to weekly mobile lab visits, classrooms are equipped with iPads. Classroom teachers use iPads as tools to further student learning through the use of apps and online materials.

For fifth grade information, please see middle school technology.
